Din Thomas quits cornering after Robertson's loss
UFC 330's aftermath ran the day, and the loudest new thread wasn't a fight — it was analyst Din Thomas quitting the corner on live TV. Beyond that, Islam Makhachev started steering the welterweight title picture toward Carlos Prates, the UFC filled out the UFC 331 card, and Raul Rosas Jr. landed his first headliner.
Din Thomas quits cornering on live TV, drawing backlash
After Gillian Robertson lost a one-sided decision to Mackenzie Dern at UFC 330, longtime coach and UFC analyst Din Thomas announced on the post-fight show that he is done cornering fighters, saying that title shot "might be as far as she can go." The timing and phrasing drew heavy criticism: commentator Jon Anik called it "awful" and "not about you," Sean Strickland tore into Thomas, and Dana White said he was blindsided. Thomas, who cornered champions at American Top Team, says he will still work with fighters but no longer wants the full fight-week grind.
Why it matters: A respected cornerman walking away mid-broadcast, and appearing to write off his own fighter's ceiling moments after her biggest night, is a rare and ugly look that leaves Robertson's team in flux.

Makhachev backs Prates for next shot, wants to fight again before Ramadan
Fresh off his record 17th straight win over Ian Machado Garry, welterweight champion Islam Makhachev named Carlos Prates as the most deserving next challenger, citing the Brazilian's activity over the less busy Michael Morales and the long-sidelined Shavkat Rakhmonov. Makhachev, cleared by a doctor after fearing Garry broke his nose with an accidental headbutt, admitted he needs to add size and power at 170 pounds and wants to return by January, before Ramadan. Early lines make him a heavy favorite over both Prates (-250) and Morales (-210).
Why it matters: Makhachev is tilting the welterweight title picture toward Prates over the unbeaten Morales, which points to a Prates-Morales eliminator to settle who actually gets the shot.

UFC 331 main card set: Pantoja-Van 2 tops LA lineup
The UFC announced the full main card for UFC 331 on Sept. 19 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Alexandre Pantoja gets his flyweight title rematch with Joshua Van, who took the belt last December when Pantoja was hurt in the first round. Arman Tsarukyan vs. Mauricio Ruffy serves as the lightweight co-main, with Patricio Pitbull vs. Doo Ho Choi, Renato Moicano vs. Brian Ortega, and Alonzo Menifield vs. Iwo Baraniewski completing the card.
Why it matters: The Tsarukyan-Ruffy winner is positioned for a crack at Justin Gaethje's lightweight belt, and Pantoja-Van 2 finally resolves a title change first decided by an early injury.

Raul Rosas Jr. lands first UFC headliner against Raoni Barcelos
The UFC booked 21-year-old bantamweight prospect Raul Rosas Jr. against 39-year-old veteran Raoni Barcelos to headline UFC Fight Night on Sept. 26 at the Apex in Las Vegas, the first main event for either man. Rosas (12-1) rides a five-fight win streak, while Barcelos (22-5) is also on a five-fight run with recent wins over Montel Jackson, Ricky Simon, Cody Garbrandt and Payton Talbott.
Why it matters: It's a genuine step up for Rosas, pairing the hyped youngster with a grizzled gatekeeper who has beaten a run of ranked names.
Cormier presses free agent Usman Nurmagomedov to sign with UFC
PFL lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov, a free agent after knocking out Archie Colgan in the final bout of his contract, was backstage at UFC 330, where Daniel Cormier urged him to make the jump: "It's time for legacy. You think they're bums? Come show me." Nurmagomedov (22-0) appeared to question the level of UFC lightweights in the exchange. PFL still holds an exclusive negotiating window amid its merger with MVP before the UFC can formally bid.
Why it matters: The best lightweight competing outside the UFC edging toward the Octagon would immediately reshape a division ruled by Justin Gaethje and thick with Dagestani talent.
Neil Magny ties Charles Oliveira for second-most UFC wins
Neil Magny's second-round stoppage of Ramiz Brahimaj at UFC 330 was the 25th UFC victory of his career, moving him past Max Holloway and level with Charles Oliveira for second all-time, three behind Jim Miller's record 28. The 39-year-old welterweight gatekeeper says durability and timing will let him eventually catch Miller.
Why it matters: Magny has quietly assembled one of the deepest résumés in company history and is now within reach of the all-time UFC wins record.
