Prochazka headlines a loaded UFC Qatar card
The UFC filled in its Nov. 21 Doha card, led by Jiri Prochazka against undefeated Navajo Stirling, while Contender Series delivered its first slam knockout and a refereeing mess that Dana White pinned on Herb Dean. Elsewhere the crossover-wrestling world got its long-awaited Chimaev-Covington booking and Mikey Musumeci laid out an MMA path toward UFC flyweight gold.
Prochazka vs. Stirling headlines stacked UFC Qatar on Nov. 21
The UFC revealed nine bouts for its Nov. 21 return to Doha's ABHA Arena, topped by a five-round light heavyweight main event between former champion Jiri Prochazka and undefeated Navajo Stirling (11-0), who is riding a six-fight UFC run and coming off a first-round KO of Jan Blachowicz. Aljamain Sterling faces rising featherweight Kevin Vallejos in the co-main, and Brian Ortega makes his lightweight debut against Dan Hooker. The card also features Jared Cannonier vs. Ikram Aliskerov, Kyoji Horiguchi vs. Asu Almabayev, and Aleksandre Topuria vs. Santiago Luna.
Why it matters: With champion Carlos Ulberg still sidelined by a leg injury, a Prochazka win over Stirling would scramble the 205-pound title picture — and a Stirling win would stamp a new contender. Tickets go on sale Oct. 9.
Contender Series' first slam KO — and an illegal-knee win Dana White ripped
George Staines scored the first slam knockout in Contender Series history, finishing Loai Abushaar in Round 1 of the Week 8 main event, as all four winners earned UFC contracts. But the night was overshadowed when Ian Escuza landed a clearly illegal knee to a downed Luca Borando in his 32-second TKO; referee Herb Dean and the NSAC let the result stand, and Escuza was signed anyway after Sean Shelby argued for him. Dana White said flatly of Dean, 'He f--ked up.' Adama Diop and Aieza Bertolso also earned deals.
Why it matters: The UFC handing a contract to a fighter who won on an illegal strike — over White's own objection — is an awkward look for a promotion already fielding questions about officiating and result integrity.
Chimaev vs. Covington finally booked — for RAF wrestling in Abu Dhabi
Real American Freestyle announced Khamzat Chimaev will challenge Colby Covington for the Cruiserweight Crossover title on Nov. 14 at Etihad Arena, settling a feud rooted in their UFC days. Chimaev, 3-0 in RAF, must first get past Robbie Lawler in Las Vegas on Oct. 23. Per MMA Mania, RAF first tried to book Covington against UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland for the Vegas card, but the two couldn't bridge a 10-pound gap — Strickland wanted 200, Covington wanted 190 — and Covington passed.
Why it matters: The promotion's freestyle-wrestling crossover keeps poaching UFC names for grudge matches the Octagon never delivered, giving fighters a lucrative side stage for their rivalries.

Musumeci to make MMA jump, eyes UFC flyweight belt
BJJ standout Mikey Musumeci, 30, told Ariel Helwani he plans to make his MMA debut this year and is in talks with multiple promotions, likely relinquishing his UFC BJJ bantamweight title. The four-time IBJJF world champion, three months into MMA training at Syndicate MMA under John Wood, wants to build up on the regional scene before targeting the UFC's 125-pound crown currently held by Joshua Van. Musumeci pointed to taking Bryce Mitchell down twice in their recent grappling match as evidence his wrestling will translate.
Why it matters: A decorated grappler entering an already-stacked flyweight division is a compelling crossover, but Musumeci himself concedes the striking gap is enormous — this is a long-term project, not an instant contender.
Susurkaev out at UFC 334, Cesar Almeida steps in vs. Donte Johnson
Undefeated middleweight prospect Baisangur Susurkaev (12-0) has withdrawn from his Nov. 14 UFC 334 bout with fellow unbeaten Donte Johnson (9-0) at Madison Square Garden for undisclosed reasons. Cesar Almeida (7-3) has agreed to replace him, per reports, though contracts aren't yet signed. Almeida is 3-3 in the UFC and coming off a first-round KO loss to Damian Pinas, while Johnson has won three straight in the Octagon.
Why it matters: A battle of two of the division's most-hyped unbeaten prospects becomes a much softer test for Johnson, who now faces a veteran on a skid instead of a résumé-making win.
